Sherpa are making some beautiful but functional clothing right now, and the Nangpala slots right into that ‘high mountain to high street’ category. Functional means the use of Primaloft Silver – a 60/40 mix of hydrophobic goose down mixed with primaloft synthetic fibres, surrounded by a tough ripstop polyester outer with a very effective DWR – it’s shrugged off plenty of autumn showers without issue. External pockets are zippered and lined which means they do actually work as ‘handwarmers’. The hood is big enough for ponytails and helmets, and as a result could use a rear adjuster in my view. On the plus side, the hood rim volume adjusters are secured on the inside, which prevents them flying about on windy days. Other storage included two internal mesh pockets (good for drying out damp gloves, say the brand) and an earphones compatible chest pocket. The cut is flattering and the arms are longish, but with elastic at the wrist. It also comes in navy, not just pink or purple. Overall, the weight of insulation used means it’s a really practical jacket for autumn into winter and out again – warm enough when active even for a reptile like me! – and along with the Nepali style interior trim, it looks gorgeous too. Weight 250g.
VERDICT: Warm when active in changeable autumn and winter conditions.
BEST FOR: Autumn strolls, winter walks and scrambles.
