While my initial impression of these trousers was based around the question, “what exactly are they designed for” it turned out that after wearing them for several weeks the answer is “everything” – running, hiking, camping, via ferratas, climbing – I barely took them off. They are also very comfortable for driving in. The stretchy, lightweight fabric means they aren’t restrictive. The elasticated waistband fitted perfectly, and the additional drawstring wasn’t needed. The fabric is also tough with no signs of abrasion against rock. They are surprisingly windproof given how thin the fabric is, and the narrow, elasticated ankles kept the draughts at bay. They pack down small and only weight 188g. The three good-sized pockets all have zips and can fit a smart phone. Finally, they washed very well, retaining their shape each time.
▶ Verdict: Possibly the only trousers you’ll need for most of your adventures.
▶ Best for: Anything you can throw at them!
