Relatively unknown in the UK, Oboz hail from Montana USA. One of their selling points is that for every pair of boots sold, a tree is planted. Feel-good factor aside, it was fun to come to a new brand without any preconceptions. The boot is tough, with great stability and lots of cushioning. Ankle support is better than a trainer, but not overly aggressive. The mid height provides protection from puddles and streams and is helped by a ‘BDry’ membrane. The outsole is good on reasonably well made footpaths although I’d like more traction in the mountains. It’s a great option for long distance trails where a heavy load and many miles are hard on the feet. Weight 459g (size not specified).
VERDICT: A good alternative to a walking shoe for better support and protection.
BEST FOR: Trails and long tramps.
