Partly designed as a second trouser that can easily be stashed in a suitcase or duffel if you plan to wear shorts much of the time, but these also work well as a general summer hillwalking trouser. They are light, breathable and reasonably quick drying. There are single rear and leg pockets, both zippered. The two hip pockets are sadly not zippered, and not that deep, but there is a small coin and key pocket which is zippered.
The waist has both button and popper which keeps them securely in place, and there are several poppers at the ankle, which raise the leg above the ankle, or cinch the fabric in close to the shoe or boot. The fit is slim and the UV screening ‘vectorlite’ fabric is slightly clingy while retaining some give. There’s 2 leg lengths available and the tan colour shows up bugs in the summer. Weight around 300g.
► Verdict: A good all-rounder, let down a little by the cut and pocket design.
► Best for: Backpacking and trekking in warmer climes.
