The Futura is a robust and structured female specific daysack with a mesh back system to help with ventilation. There are two handy mesh waist belt pockets, two side bottle pockets, a front pocket which is clipped shut and used generally for waterproofs, and two roomy lid pockets – both inside and out. The interior can be accessed either by the top or by a zip into the main compartment. This is double zipped and goes all the way around the front, meaning the pack can be laid down and all the inside exposed – very useful. The fabric feels tough and my test unit is still as good as new – Deuter build to last and that durability is reflected in a weight of around 1300g. There’s a rain cover in the bottom which is useful for UK hill days and doesn’t flap around in the wind. Load transfer to the hips is good, and there’s a good amount of padding on the hips and shoulder straps, but I found the pack’s structure a little rigid and perhaps a little too long for my own smaller (5’2) frame. The hipbelt was similarly wide. The curved frame also means the interior of the pack fills up very quickly, too.
► Verdict: A durable, well designed female specific daysack, prioritizing breathability.
► Best For: summer day hikes, taller women who don’t overpack.
