A ‘universal, all day sock’, say the manufacturer… and they’re right. The fabric is a fusion of about a quarter Merino wool, half coolmax polyester, with the remainder made up of nylon with a little lycra for stretch and fit. The merino keeps things fresh, even when worn on multiday treks, while the poly’ means they don’t hold water and dry quickly. They are quite loose knit and therefore cooler than others here. I found them to be an excellent general hiking and biking sock, especially in the warmer months when I adopt a ‘wet shoe’ system (ie. walk and bike in non membrane trail runners, and need fast drying socks) but when 100% wool can be too warm. The mix of natural and synthetic is an excellent compromise, they are very comfortable and the price is competitive.
VERDICT: Good all rounder, drain well, not too warm.
BEST FOR: 2-3 season hiking.
