The Tephra is filled with water resistant Hydrodown, with the loft-ability of natural down feathers, but much better in damp environments than untreated down. It’s also made from very light Quantum Pertex, which helps make this the warmest for its weight of the jackets tested. Whilst my preference is for synthetic insulation in really horrible weather, this performs well in dampish conditions. I like the way the micro-baffles enhance what is already a tailored shape. There are two handwarmer pockets, and a nice deep collar, although I’d prefer a hood. The plus side is that the lack of one helps keep the weight down to 341g.
VERDICT: A simple, well thought out lightweight down jacket.
BEST FOR: Winter sports, chilly evenings around camp.
