I like the Zeta a lot – it’s designed with hiking and trekking in mind but manages to be pretty great at mountaineering too. Sadly, the hood isn’t wired but is helmet compatible, adjustable and does stay where it’s put. The drop hem works equally well under a backpack or a harness, and the 2 large chest pockets stay out of the way of both, too. Interestingly, the zips here are reversed, opening from bottom to top – a good way to increase water resistance but less useful if you have small items in them! 2 way pitzips and an internal pocket complete the feature set. The fabric is 3L Gore-tex, which shrugs off water and is lighter and a shade more breathable than the ‘pro’ variety. Very little to fault here. Weight 425g.
VERDICT: All round 4-season performer. Lightweight. Long hem is excellent, but needs a wired hood.
BEST FOR: 3-season trekking into winter hillwalking.
