Positives first: the materials (80% Nylon; 20% Spandex) and construction appear high quality for the price. The fabric felt very stretchy, and durable yet lightweight. The shorts also proved reasonably breathable and quick-drying, thanks to the Altura Dry wicking technology. The seams are strong and tidy, and the panels well-shaped for a second-skin fit. The leg length is on the longer side, which I personally like. The cuffs, with their silicone backer, worked well to prevent the shorts riding up without cutting off circulation. A clever safety feature: these cuffs glow under headlights — working like road signs to bounce light back. And the negative: I found the pad rather large, particularly at the front, and I didn’t find the gel pad in it, which is a little heavier than a regular foam pad, made a noticeable difference to comfort.
▶Verdict: Impressive for £50, but some will find the pad a bit bulky.
▶Best for: Those looking for good quality, reasonably-priced cycling shorts with a big seat pad.
