After introducing its first backpacking boot for men, Keen has now launched a women’s specific version – the new women’s Karraig waterproof hiking boots. The Karraig is a premium European Made backpacking boot designed to deliver performance and stability as solid as the Gaelic rocks its name is inspired from, and I was not left disappointed. The boot is equipped with Keen.Dry waterproof breathable membrane, letting your feet breathe whilst keeping them dry at the same time, plus constructed with a premium leather and performance mesh upper. I have put them through their paces on several different trips and they have always kept my feet dry and comfy, even through a few torrential downpours, with no overheating. The boot is sturdy and supportive, particularly around the ankle, and this is thanks to the dynamic ankle support, contoured heel lock and an additional lace locking eyelet; in fact, it is the only boot in Keen’s collection with these unique features. I appreciated the enhanced lugs, 5mm multi-direction lugs rather than the standard 4mm, offering impressive grip on challenging and slippery terrain. The feature that impressed me the most was the lacing system, the Karraig is equipped with several strong metal eyelets and two speed hooks at the top, plus the laces loop through a cord that wraps around the ankle, which makes lace adjustments super easy and enables you to tighten the boot firmly around your ankle. The Karraig is made to tackle wet, boggy and tough walks, in true comfort. A win for me.
VERDICT: Super comfy waterproof hiking boots perfect for rough terrain and challenging weather conditions. Impressive ankle support.
BEST FOR: Multi-day hiking routes with boggy terrain, plus rigid and strong enough for some scrambling mixed in too.
