ViewRanger – the app that helps you get active outdoors – has a collection of routes that are specifically for families seeking outdoor inspiration this February half term.
The half term holidays are the perfect opportunity to get out of the house and explore the outdoors with children. This collection of walks is a great way to make the most of time off and to see the beautiful sites the UK has to offer.
The School’s Out collection of family friendly walks from around the UK can be downloaded free of charge and includes route guides from branded publishers such as the National Trust, who contributed a selection of coastal walks which are now available to download as a digital guide.
Other partners including Get Out With The Kids, a website which supports parents taking up outdoor pursuits with their family. The School’s Out collection also includes guides from Capture Outdoors, an organisation dedicated to creativity in the outdoors, professional photographer Jo Bradford, and Beth Pipe, writer, hiker and founder of the Cumbrian Rambler.
Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “Walking is a great way for families to enjoy time together and is one of the most easily accessible forms of exercise there is.
“By grouping a selection of route guides as a family friendly collection, ViewRanger is making it easier for parents to plan a day out and explore a new area together. The guides can be downloaded quickly and stored on a mobile device so a mobile signal is not required to navigate using the guide.
“Photographs, waypoint information and other helpful content for each route are included within the digital route guides and the active navigation system alerts the user if they veer off track. ViewRanger also makes it possible for families to record their own walks and share them with the ViewRanger community and other friends via social media or email.”
The School’s Out collection includes:
• Coastal walks from the National Trust (North Yorkshire, Merseyside, East Sussex, Pembrokeshire and Northumberland)
• Dartmoor walks from Jo Bradford, professional photographer
• Cumbria walks from Beth Pipe, hiker, writer and founder of the Cumbrian Rambler
• Shropshire walks from Gav Grayston, Co-founder of Get Out With The Kids
• Northern Ireland walks by David Cleland, writer and photographer, Capture Outdoors and Flixelpix
Each of the route guides in the School’s Out collection can be found on ViewRanger’s discovery tab – an area dedicated to discovering information-rich trail guides worldwide.
