Simple is often best, and these pants prove it. They’re made from a tough Hydro/dry outer, with seams sealed, a material that has proved genuinely waterproof on some very soggy walks and campsites. The waistband is elasticated and the legs have gusseted zips to allow you to get them on and off over shoes and (smaller) boots. They are generously sized to sit over other clothes too – we’re still rolling the legs up on ours, and our daughter isn’t that short – so they should last more than a year or two. Inside, they are lined with a slippery taffeta, which doesn’t bind with other layers and makes dressing or undressing easier. There are a couple of reflectors, which is handy because the pants are black. Otherwise, these do exactly what they say on the tin – and that’s exactly as it should be. I can’t fault these at all.
VERDICT: Robust, durable and simple waterproof overtrouser.
BEST FOR: British weather at any time of year.
