Ronhill are famous for their running gear, and if you want some extra warmth while on the run, this is one to watch. Those togs are provided by a thin scrim of PrimaLoft Silver sandwiched between a lightweight softshell, which is left without insulation on the arms and side panels for extra breathability. The whole affair resists wind and wetting out extremely well, so I wouldn’t have a problem not taking a waterproof if conditions were cold enough to warrant this, providing I knew I was going to keep moving fast throughout. It’s closely cut and the sleeves are nice and stretchy, so it looks and feels great on. Large handwarmer pockets and a fleece-backed collar complete the feature set. I struggled to get cold enough conditions to run in this without overheating, but if you (ahem) run cold, or in sub zero conditions regularly I think this will be pretty spot on. I also backpacked in it, but found the insulation on the back panel got sweaty very quickly. Then again, that’s not really its remit. Weight 230g.
VERDICT: Nicely designed and fitted lightweight insulation while on the move.
BEST FOR: Excellent for cold weather running. Not so great with a backpack.
