Muckboot make stylish and robust Wellington boots, but as the name suggests the Arctic Ice is built for cold conditions. There’s a 5mm neoprene inner and a fleece lining next to the foot. The solo unit is ‘Vibram Arctic Grip’, which I’ve found to handle everything from mud, wet roots and rocks, snow and ice all without batting an eyelid. The boots are quite obviously built to last and very durable. There’s a stretchy material at the calf which the brand say will lock in further warmth, although I’m able to get my trouser legs inside the boot and still have room around the lower leg. Perhaps just as well – I really feel the cold, but even I found them too warm for more strenuous walking uphill. However, for general purpose walking around the garden, local fields and woods, the waterproofness and grip is confidence inspiring, and they look pretty snazzy too.
