Home 2 Person Tents MSR carbon reflex 2 UL

MSR carbon reflex 2 UL

Tested at 2500ms in the winter Sierra Nevada, this ultra lightweight shelter performed surprisingly well given it was operating well beyond its 3 season remit. It’s a very minimal, inner first design with 2 doors and 2 roomy porches. It achieves its crazy lightweight by using poles made from carbon, no door zips and by having a very low profile, which seems to help in higher winds. The inner is all mesh apart from a bathtub floor, which means it’s a little draughty (especially at -9deg C!), and the doors use hook and eye and Velcro to hold them together. The floorplan is big enough for 2, but headroom is an issue. Despite the wafer thin components, the shelter stood up well to high winds. The poles look terrifically flimsy but once erected the shelter felt very secure. Popular with dry weather bikepackers because of that inner first, mesh design and barely there weight, I think this would be a squeeze for 2 for longer than a weekend at a time, and is less than suitable for UK backpacking, where porches need to be more water repellent and bathtub floors need to be deeper. Weight 990g
