Normally, an ultra-lightweight jacket will be devoid of useful additional features, to minimise the materials used, but this jacket is full of them. Weighing only 133g it still manages to include two good-sized zipped pockets and in internal mesh pocket with security loop. The elasticated cuffs are snug enough to protect the wrists and prevent wind and drips getting inside, although the arms could be a little longer. The hood has a pull cord for adjustment and is helmet compatible, and even the hem is adjustable. It is incredibly small when packed away into its pocket and takes up no space in a rucksack, even a small trail running pack. The stretchy material is perfect for more dynamic activities because it moves with your body. If you don’t wear any layers under it, then it can feel cold and damp next to the skin, but the taped seams and Pertex® Shield prevented any water ingress. While it does maintain some breathability, and the small underarm holes help with this, I did find sweat building up on the inside when I started working hard. I didn’t have any issues with durability, which can be another trade-off with ultralight gear, but I was very careful as the material is very thin and the price tag is fairly high.

▶Verdict: Feels light like a windproof but performs like a waterproof. Superb.

▶Best for: Any activities where weight is important.
