It’s not cheap, but it does nearly all of what you need. There are many of the standards here – wire cutters and stripper, pliers, knife, saw, screwdriver and bits and box wrench, but what sets this apart is the extras, plus the quality of the components. Unexpected and very welcome in a ‘backcountry’ scenario are the whistle, fire starter, knife sharpener and… hammer! The carabiner is also very solid and great for fixing to a climbing rack or harness. The knife is nicely sized and very, very sharp, and the saw is two way and equally effective, despite it’s small size. The pliers aren’t huge but are big and solid enough to repair climbing and winter mountaineering kit. It sits in the hand well, and is just heavy enough not to break when you use it in earnest, and all the sharps lock into position for safety. If you’re climbing or skitouring in remote places, then this is a one-stop shop. Bikers will need a few more bits, but not many. If you’re trekking, you could manage with less. Weight 212g.

VERDICT: They’ve thought of (nearly) everything. Just tough enough.

BEST FOR: Climbers, Mountaineers, Ski tourers, DIY.
