This spring Keen have added to their European manufactured collection with the Wanderer, a low to mid cut hiking boot, with the look and feel of a shoe. Reliable waterproofing comes from a Keen.dry membrane, which is protected by good quality suede uppers and a tough rubber outsole. Traction on rough ground is good, with deep lugs underfoot. The ankle cuff is supportive but because it is lower at the back the Achilles has room to flex, less restrictive than a traditional mid cut walking boot. I tested the women’s version and found the fit to be typically Keen – broad in the forefoot, whilst being more of a low profile “trainer fit” than some of their more traditional walking boot styles. Other classic Keen features include the big rubber bumper at the toe, and a cushioned pad under the heel to absorb impact on long days. It’s available in a range of bold or neutral colours – as at home on the street as the hill.
