Instantly recognisable by the bright neck-to-wrist stripes, the Dry Stripe Crew is something of a design classic. Spend a bank holiday on Snowdon or Scafell Pike and you’ll almost certainly count double figures of walkers wearing one of these. There’s a reason for that: as an outdoor product it’s hard to fault. For a very reasonable £30 you’re getting a synthetic baselayer (it’s 100% Polypropylene) that you can wear throughout the year on almost any outdoor activity – from jogging and hillwalking to winter sports and gym training. Helly Hansen calls the tech Lifa Stay Dry, which claims to actively keep the layer of material touching your skin dry and thus maintain user comfort. It works well in highly aerobic activities, whilst the elasticated wrists and neck combine with the nicely snug fit to give an athletic and supportive feeling on the upper body. Merino products are better at dealing with multi-day odour build-up, but for a quick-wicking undergarment that you’ll use across almost any activity this is a strong choice.
VERDICT: A justified classic, if you like the styling then there’s no reason not to buy.
BEST FOR: Multi-sport users.
