Haglofs Essens Mimic Jacket – Editor’s Choice

£165 www.haglofs.com/gb/en

At just 320g this is a really light jacket, especially as it is a synthetic one. It feels soft and compressible, and the Quad Mimic synthetic insulation does the job no matter what the weather is up to. It’s seen a few downpours on test… Shelled in silky Pertex Microlight, it slides easily over or under layers and can easily be layered over a hardshell in an emergency. There are two hand warmer pockets and a chest pocket. Elasticated cuffs and hem keep drafts out. I personally miss having a hood, but Haglofs do make a hooded version too. Should it matter that I find the range of colours a bit odd? Of course not, this is an awesome piece of kit.

VERDICT: Very light synthetic insulation.

BEST FOR: Lightweight adventures in horrible weather.
