Once upon a time there was no such thing as a water resistant zip. All good jackets had zips protected by double baffles, and zips didn’t leak. This jacket took me on a wonderful trip down memory lane with a trad double baffle zip down the front. The disappointment is that it’s only the main zip that is protected this way – the pockets have water resistant zips and open straight into the jacket – although I stress that these did not leak on test. In fact it’s a lovely jacket for winter walking. Made from two layer Gore-Tex with a quick drying polyester lining. It’s got a good, wired hood, lots of storage in the form of two internal and three external pockets, plus underarm zips. The lining makes it a tad warm for year-round use. Weight 540g.
VERDICT: A well-featured traditional waterproof.
BEST FOR: Hillwalking in cool, mixed weather.
