British brand Force 10 (part of the Vango brand) has a reputation for making excellent tents, and the Xenon Ultra Light 2 is no exception. The weight rating of 1.65kg is absolutely superb, especially when you consider the spacious 2.1m x 1.3m, sit-up-friendly sleeping area and the sizeable porch in front of it too. I’m a big fan of its all-in-one pitching style, achieved through the inner toggling into the fly and the poles sheaths running on the outside of the latter – all of which makes pitching and striking in a rainstorm far less of an issue. The fabrics are nicely judged, with the inner and fly being only 15 denier in thickness (although the latter is also siliconised and PU coated too) whilst the groundsheet is an impressive 70 denier nylon for improved longevity. It’s in the small details that the Xenon shines too, with a pleasing matte finish to its two colour-coded poles, aptly positioned storage pouches within, smooth-operating zips and great venting options.
VERDICT: An excellent year-round tent that’s very competitively priced for the quality.
BEST FOR: Lightweight, two-person adventures in almost any environment.
