The Mistaya is the techiest offering here, and it’s really well thought out if you need a waterproof cap for winter activity. It’s an all-synthetic cap made of polyester. The outer X dry fabric is water and wind proof, while the inner is thick pile fleece. The earflaps can be worn up or down, and are held up with poppers. There’s also a rear draw cord for achieving a snug fit. The peak is shorter than a full baseball cap but very broad, so does a great job of eliminating glare if you walking into the sun. It also folds up into 3. The Mistaya can be worn under a climbing helmet, but really excels under a winter shell hood, where it provides both a bit of luxury and plenty of structure. It’s versatile, packs small and the ability to raise the earflaps provides plenty of venting. It’s also genuinely waterproof! Admittedly, the peak means it’s not the best thing to wear to bed, but otherwise this is 100g of excellent design.
VERDICT: Extremely well thought out, warm but not too sweaty.
BEST FOR: From horizontal hail showers to winter sports and high altitude treks.
