The Anertia is designed with skiers and snowboarders in mind, who tend to run cooler on long downhill runs and so need to beef up the insulation. There’s two thicknesses of primaloft here, more on the back of the hand to deal with high windchill, and less on the fingers and palm so you can still deal with clasps and buttons. As you’d expect from Arc’teryx these are beautifully made: what with the soft leather palms and fingers, softshell elsewhere, brushed fleece and Gore-tex inner and I feel as if I’m wearing a car interior (one that I’ll never be able to afford!). The short cuff means these are less well suited for climbing but also that they sit under a jacket sleeve very deftly indeed. Wrist leashes, designed to stop your gloves blowing away are included, but also removable. I’m not a skier but I liked the Anertia a lot for it’s general purpose mountaineering capabilities – it’s a little bulky but is very warm, gives my fingers room to wiggle and is extremely waterproof. Women’s version available, weight per pair 200g.
VERDICT: Luxurious, very waterproof and warm.
BEST FOR: Ski and Snowboard.
