The Alterra GTX boots are soft and comfortable. The ankle cuff is made with elastic material and focuses more on comfort than support, making me feel like I was wearing trekking shoes and not boots. The flexibility means it’s non tiring boot to wear, but I would worry about my ankles on more technical ground. The Vibram sole with AKU’s ELICA technology promises good load distribution and my feet didn’t suffer from pressure or hot spots. As with the Zamberlan Guides, these boots felt a little narrower than the others on test and may suit a slimmer foot. Thankfully they also come with an extra set of laces for those of us who don’t think women always need to have something pink! 550g per boot, no B rating.
VERDICT: Excellent comfort but lacks support.
BEST FOR: Long distance trekking on easy to intermediate terrain.
