Ordnance Survey have announced that they are going to be replacing all 607 paper maps with a new cover design and include a mobile download of the map. From the 10 June, the first 62 maps in the OS Explorer Outdoor Leisure (OL) range will be available, with others to follow on.
The OL maps cover all of Britain’s national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty, and will come with an iOS and Android compatible download of the area covered by the map. The downloaded map will allow you to plot and store your routes electronically. Unlike many mapping apps, all your maps are saved on the phone, so are available even when you don’t have a signal, making it perfect for even the remotest areas. Another standout feature is its ability to record your walk or ride so you know exactly where you have been.
All the new map cover images have come from the winners of the OS Photofit competition. The competition is still open, so you can submit your best photos for the OS Landranger series until 31 October – or just vote for your favourites .
The new maps will be available from 10 June from the OS Shop, and from local retailers shortly afterwards.
