Not the cheapest here, but a superb jacket for the price with very few compromises and plenty to shout about. The fabric is comfortable and stretchy three layer Roccia, which has proved consistently waterproof on test and is lightweight and low bulk. It’s also 100% PTFE free and bluesign approved, which makes this jacket one of the best environmental performers in this roundup. The fit is on the slim side, which means less fabric flapping around but still allows room to layer underneath. The hood isn’t wired and doesn’t offer the best protection here, but it is helmet compatible. The chest pockets are a little lower than others here, and might get in the way of a harness for some, but seem to sit clear of both harness and backpack waist belt for me – these same pockets are bellowed and volumous, great for stuffing with maps, gloves and snacks. Pitzips, gusseted and nicely cut sleeves move with your arms. Two more internal pockets complete the picture. Lightweight at 445g.
VERDICT: A well cut, designed and environmentally sound jacket that would have been a clear winner in both categories had it not been for the slightly less than perfect hood design.
BEST FOR: 3-season trekking into winter hill walking.
