The phoenix Flight is made from Primaloft Thermoplume, a synthetic material that mimics the properties of down. It insulated very well, keeping me very warm and packs down well considering it is 468g. It has a dropped seat and an elasticated drawcord which stop draughts up your back. There are two stretchy fleece side panels which help it fit snugly over the hips. These panels are breathable to help regulate your temperature, but I found that in the wind it blew straight through and made me feel cold. The hood is a good size, even when wearing a pony tail. There was no adjustment to make it fit your face, so some air does get inside, but it didn’t reduce your field of vision when you turned your head. The elastic cuffs are not adjustable but they fit your wrists well and gloves can go underneath or over the top. There are two good sized pockets with zip pulls which are easy to use in gloves. The inside chest pocket is handy to keep something small and valuable warm too.
► Verdict: An excellent jacket for colder weather.
► Best for: Colder conditions, out of the wind.
