Happy Monday! The latest boxed charts are in the UK, and surprisingly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is comfortably at the top.
according to Chris Dring from GamesIndustry.bizNintendo’s latest Zelda entry is the biggest boxed launch of 2023 yet, besting Hogwarts Legacy by 54%. It also outperformed its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, by a staggering 173% and is already the fourth-biggest Zelda game of all time by revenue, behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, it’s not the biggest Switch launch ever, as that honor still belongs to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Of course, since Nintendo doesn’t share digital data, we don’t really get a full picture of how the game will perform at launch, but if boxed sales are anything to go by, we have a hunch Tears of the Kingdom might become the best-selling Zelda game of all time. Sooner rather than later.
Elsewhere, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy kept Avalanche Software’s game in the top 10, while Breath of the Wild itself enjoyed a sales boost in the wake of the sequel’s launch, ranking eighth.
Finally, we’re not sure what’s going on here, but Minecraft’s dominance in the charts seems to be waning. The evergreen title sat comfortably in the top 10 for what it felt like Younesbut it has now slipped to 22nd place after coming in 15th last week.
