“Russian government security officials in Ukraine and Russia can select U.S. citizens based on their nationality. We reiterate our urgent need for all US citizens in Russia and Ukraine to leave immediately,” he warned.
The official says there were “detained and already released American citizens” in Ukraine, but as for Russia, “there are some cases” and can not “proceed with a number”.
This Thursday marks the 36th day since the start of the Russian invasion. Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine has already killed at least 1,232 civilians and wounded 1,935, according to UN figures.
