Authorities said the pilot of a plane that threatened to crash into a supermarket over Mississippi was arrested Saturday morning.
According to authorities, the person who allegedly stole the plane could be charged with theft and terroristic threats.
In a press conference, Tupelo Police Chief John Kwaka revealed that the now-detained Tupelo Aviation employee does not have a pilot’s license, but only “some instruction.”
Quacka said the man stole the plane, took off, called an emergency number and threatened to crash into a supermarket.
However, they reported that the plane landed safely without any injuries.
Governor Tate Reeves tweeted, “The situation has been resolved and no one was injured.
Reeves thanked police officers who helped track the plane, which had been flying in the area since 05:00 (local time).
In a Facebook post, the Tupelo Police Department reported that a plane was flying over the city with about 38,000 people on board at 5:00 a.m. (local time) and the pilot threatened to crash into a supermarket.
“The pilot contacted emergency services and threatened to intentionally crash into the Walmart [nome da cadeia de supermercados]”However, the police said that without giving the pilot’s motivation, he was able to speak.
Following this, police officers evacuated the supermarket and a nearby gas station.
