ohFlights to and from Luton Airport in the UK were suspended this Monday, due to high temperatures felt in the United Kingdom, causing a “defect” on the take-off and landing runways.
“After today’s high temperature, a surface defect was identified on the runway,” the airport management said, as quoted by the British press. “Engineers were immediately called to the site and repair work is now in full swing,” he added.
A source told Sky News “the track has melted”.
Located in the county of Bedfordshire, the airport has only one runway and is served by easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair and DUI, whose flights are diverted to nearby airports. The last flight landed at Luton at 3:07pm.
The incident comes on a day when the United Kingdom will record a temperature of 38ºC, which will rise to a high of 39ºC tomorrow.
