Russia tells UK it will present ‘evidence’ of involvement in Crimea attack

British officials have repeatedly denied the Russian accusations and said Moscow was trying to “distract attention” from its military setbacks in Ukraine.

“There is no doubt about the involvement of British secret services in the attacks on Russian ships in the Black Sea in late October and the sabotage of gas pipelines in September,” Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

“The British ambassador will be summoned and the materials will be handed over to him (…) and the public will be informed about the elements that will be handed over to the British side as evidence,” he added.

The Kremlin blames Britain for the September explosions that damaged the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea, built to send Russian gas to Europe.

The Russian military is accusing “British specialists” of involvement in Saturday’s Ukrainian drone strike against its fleet in Crimea’s Sevastopol Bay.

On Monday, British Foreign Secretary James Wisely said the Russian allegations were “increasingly far from reality” and “seek to distract the Russian public from Russian failures on the battlefield.”
