Pelosi is leading a congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific and plans to visit places including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan, according to a statement issued by her office on Sunday.
“Today, our Congressional delegation is traveling to the Indo-Pacific to reaffirm America’s strong and unwavering commitment to our allies and friends in the region,” Pelosi said in a statement released by her office.
She said high-level meetings will be held in each country “to advance our common interests and values, including peace and security, economic growth and trade, the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, human rights, and democratic governance.”
Pelosi said the delegation received a briefing from the Indian Pacific Command after the fuel stop in Hawaii, where they visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Arizona.
Traveling alongside Pelosi as part of a congressional delegation, President Gregory Meeks (Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee), President Mark Takano (Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee), Congressman Susan Delbiny, Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy, and Congressman Andy Kim. .
“Under President Biden’s strong leadership, America is deeply committed to intelligent and strategic engagement in the region, and recognizes that the freedom and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific is critical to the prosperity of our nation and around the world,” Pelosi said.
