OPEN WORLD GAME WITH BOTW VIBES EXCEPT YOU ARE NOT HUMAN

gods gecko is an upcoming exploration and puzzle game by Louis Waloschek (and other collaborators) that puts the player in control of a gecko crawling his way around an open island. The game saw an uptick in interest yesterday as the developer announced it was coming to Switch, and it sure looks attractive.

What sticks, for me, is how, since the gecko can climb on walls and ceilings, it opens up new dimensions for you to explore and for the team to design puzzles around. Because of this, entire rock structures within their temples become a space for level design, which is a great way to think about the environment as you climb around it and solve puzzles.

gods gecko It also has sailing segments, and it’s great to watch the little gecko trying to power the boat on its own, having to steer it with its mouth while also turning the engine to start and stop. It’s an interesting design decision that could establish what it’s like to be an inhuman running something built for humans. Hopefully, Grandma will keep that from getting frustrated. Exploration and puzzle-solving seem to be broken down by combat departments, and though our gecko friend here doesn’t carry any weapons in the trailer, he appears to have a medium, quick bite on his feet.

The whole thing clearly seems to take inspiration from different eras The Legend of Zelda a series. Sailing conjures Wind Wicker-The environment and character design will look like they were taken from Breath of the WildAnd, in every way, it seems to go with that sense of mystery and serenity. Color me intrigued.

Gods gecko It is scheduled to be released on Steam and Switch in 2023.
