A Jordan Neely’s death on a New York subway has been ruled a homicide. A 30-year-old homeless man was filmed strangling himself after behaving erratically on the subway. The man who strangled him was arrested but released shortly after. Angry protesters gathered in the subway this Wednesday to demand justice.

A video shot by journalist Juan Alberto Vasquez shows Neely screaming and has gone viral on social media.
The passenger, whose name has not been released by police, held Neely on the ground in a chokehold for about 15 minutes, knocking him unconscious, according to the New York Post.
Medical help was called, but even so, the victim died at the hospital after being unable to resist. Medical report confirmed death by strangulation.
The former Marine was taken in for questioning but was released and New York police continue to investigate.
“It’s shocking that someone who took his own life in the subway can be released without any consequences,” Dave Giffen, executive director of the Coalition for the Homeless, said in a statement.
New York State Senator Julia Salazar called Neely’s death a “lynching.”
