A teenager born in 2009 opened fire at the school where he taught in central Belgrade, killing eight children and a guard. The incident has rocked Serbia in the past few hours and Luka Doncic is not indifferent to the tragedy.

The Slovenian NBA star has strong family ties to the Serbs, not forgetting his father’s Serbian ancestry, bearing in mind that his grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousin live there. The 24-year-old basketball player has pledged to pay for the young people’s funerals and wants to offer psychological support to their families, a spokesperson for the event, which Doncic will preside over, told ESPN.

In a statement, Donczyk showed solidarity during this chaotic time. “I am heartbroken by the tragic school shooting in Serbia and the loss of life, including innocent school children. My thoughts are with the families and the entire community affected by this tragedy,” the Dallas Mavericks guard said.
