Actress Kirstie Alley has passed away after a short battle with cancer, her children True and Lillie Parker announced Social media.

She was 71 years old.

“We are saddened to inform you that our amazing, fierce and loving mother has passed away following a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” the statement read.

The family statement continued, “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, making us confident of her endless joy in living and of any adventures awaiting us.” “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

Donovan Daughtry, Alley’s representative, also confirmed to CNN via email that the actress has passed away.

A two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner, Alley had the lead opposite Ted Danson in the finale of the classic TV sitcom Cheers, which premiered in 1982. Alley made her debut in 1987, playing the tough, independent bar manager Rebecca Howe, and remained with the show until it ended in 1993.

She again found television success in the late 1990s with “Veronica’s Closet,” which scored her another Emmy nod.

The talented comic actress who has also generated controversy through reality TV and on social media, has starred in a number of memorable films, including 1990’s “Madhouse” and 1982’s “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”
