Day of the Devs 2026: Every Major Announcement from Summer Game Fest’s Indie Showcase

Indie Games Take Centre Stage at Summer Game Fest

While Summer Game Fest’s headline presentation may have wrapped up for another year, the spotlight quickly shifted to indie developers during the latest Day of the Devs showcase. Known for highlighting inventive and unconventional projects, the annual event once again delivered a packed line-up of imaginative titles from both established and emerging studios.

This year’s showcase featured everything from co-operative roguelikes and survival horror to retro-inspired racers and narrative adventures, with appearances from developers behind acclaimed titles such as Nidhogg, Spiritfarer, Duck Detective and Bury Me, My Love. Among the biggest reveals were Trine 6: Together in Time and the unexpectedly nostalgic Super Yooka-Laylee Kart.

Blood Dungeon Brings Fast-Paced Roguelite Action

Developer Meshoff, best known for the Nidhogg series, unveiled Blood Dungeon, describing it as a blend of Vampire Survivors and Spelunky. The anti-gravity roguelite platformer tasks players with leaping between walls, ceilings and platforms while surviving waves of enemies.

The game will include several arenas and more than 100 weapons when it launches in late summer.

Survival Horror and FMV Return in Tenebris Somnia

Saibot Studios and New Blood Interactive showcased Tenebris Somnia, a side-scrolling survival horror game combining retro visuals with full-motion video sequences.

Players follow Julia, whose recurring nightmares about monstrous creatures begin to merge with reality. Alongside combat and puzzles, the game features live-action cutscenes inspired by classic 1990s horror titles. A demo is already available on Steam ahead of its 16 October release on PC and consoles.

33 Immortals Finally Gets a Release Date

After multiple delays, Thunder Lotus confirmed that its co-operative action roguelike 33 Immortals will launch on 10 June for Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox.

The title supports up to 33 players online, though it can also be played solo or in smaller groups. The game centres on large-scale battles against divine enemies and has been one of the most anticipated indie multiplayer projects since its original announcement in 2023.

Dreadmoor Combines Fishing and Nautical Horror

Developer Dream Dock Studio introduced Dreadmoor, a first-person survival game blending fishing mechanics with horror themes reminiscent of Dredge.

Set across the gloomy “Submerged Lands”, players fish for resources, upgrade equipment and battle creatures both at sea and on land. The game is scheduled for release on Steam later this year.

Threads of Time Pays Tribute to Classic RPGs

Riyo Games returned with another look at Threads of Time, a turn-based RPG inspired by genre classics such as Chrono Trigger and early Final Fantasy entries.

The time-travelling adventure follows a group of heroes journeying across different eras, from prehistoric landscapes to dystopian futures. Its visual style combines pixel art characters with 3D environments, giving it a modern take on traditional Japanese RPG design.

No release date has yet been confirmed.

Multiplayer Takes Over the N Series

Metanet Software revealed N Plus Infinity Times Two, the latest entry in the long-running N platforming series.

Unlike previous instalments, the new title places a much stronger emphasis on multiplayer gameplay while retaining the franchise’s precise ninja-inspired movement mechanics. Both local and online multiplayer modes will be included when the game launches next year.

Narrative Adventures Continue to Shine

Several story-driven games also stood out during the presentation.

Bub Explores Memory and Creativity

Bub, from developers Case Jernigan and Todd Anderson, follows a New York artist reflecting on his life and memories while confronting illness. The project draws partial inspiration from Jernigan’s own experience with multiple sclerosis and uses a variety of artistic styles to portray different emotional states.

Ithaca Blends RPG Systems with a Road Trip Mystery

Developer The Pixel Hunt introduced Ithaca, a narrative RPG centred on environmental lawyer Penelope, who discovers a hostage hidden in her car boot during a cross-country journey.

Players will shape her personality and choices through conversations, investigations and branching narrative paths. The title is targeting a release next year following a Kickstarter campaign.

Super Yooka-Laylee Kart Revives Retro Racing

One of the showcase’s biggest surprises was Super Yooka-Laylee Kart from Playtonic Games.

Moving away from platforming, the series is embracing retro kart racing inspired by the Mode 7 visuals popularised during the Super Nintendo era. The game promises online multiplayer, custom race options and a solo campaign.

Beta testing is expected to begin soon, although no launch date has been announced.

Trine 6 Officially Revealed

Frozenbyte closed the showcase with the announcement of Trine 6: Together in Time.

The latest instalment in the long-running co-operative puzzle-platform series follows two siblings who become linked to the franchise’s familiar heroes. The game once again features colourful physics-based puzzles and supports one to four players.

Trine 6 is due to launch on 17 September for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

More Experimental Indie Projects Also Featured

The event also included several unusual and experimental concepts:

Lazy River

A co-operative shooter set inside a chaotic space-themed water park overrun by zombie-like creatures infected through contaminated water.

Prove You’re Human

From the creators of 1000xResist, this sci-fi narrative game explores identity and artificial intelligence through conversations with a digital entity convinced it is human.

Screenbound

A “5D” platformer combining simultaneous 2D and 3D perspectives inspired by classic handheld gaming systems.

Apple Crumble

A murder mystery from the studio behind Duck Detective, centred around a suspicious family gathering at a grandmother’s birthday party.

Shot One Fighters

A fighting game roguelike where players customise movesets and progress through branching combat paths.

Indie Showcase Highlights Creativity Across the Industry

Day of the Devs 2026 reinforced why the showcase remains one of Summer Game Fest’s most distinctive events. While blockbuster announcements often dominate gaming headlines, this year’s indie presentation highlighted the industry’s continued appetite for originality, experimentation and smaller-scale storytelling.

From nostalgic kart racers and physics-based platformers to surreal horror adventures and emotional narratives, the showcase offered a broad glimpse at the creativity shaping the next generation of independent games.
