BBecause Madrid did not have enough volunteers to carry the statue of Christ in procession, the Spanish capital’s fire brigade relieved the nine soldiers on duty – some on extraordinary guard duty, which they charge more – and sent them to the vigil.
A total of 14 firefighters accompanied the procession, according to Cadena Chair. Of these, nine were on duty, and their participation in religious activity required the express approval of headquarters. The Deputy Inspector General did so through an internal memo signed on March 31. “During the procession of San Anton on April 7, visitors are allowed from 08:00 a.m., returning to their places at approximately 1:00 p.m. after the activity”, the text says.
Four firefighters from Park 9, three from Park 4 in Aluchi, one from Park 4 in Teduan, one firefighter from Park 11 in Hartaleza and one firefighter from the Communication Center were also accredited.
