Naturalist, TV presenter, photographer and award-winning environmental campaigner Chris Packham has launched a new clothing range exclusively with Cotswold Outdoor.
The unique range of clothing, exclusively available at stores and at cotswoldoutdoor.com for the duration of twelve months, has been developed by Chris over the last four years in partnership with British outdoor clothing specialists. The new range consists of jackets, fleeces and trousers for men, women and children, in a range of colours.
The manufacturers of Chris Packham Clothing are a ‘leader status’ member of Fair Wear Foundation; an independent non-profit organisation whose mission is to improve labour conditions in the garment industry.
Each jacket has an inscription on the yoke which reads: ‘Love life. All life. Every thing is beautiful, everything that creeps, crawls, slimes, slithers or stings. Not least because all that life keeps us all alive and that in itself, we should treasure as the greatest beauty of all.’
The Children’s Range
Chris is passionate about getting new generations involved and sparking as deep a passion as he did discovering wildlife in his garden. He comments: “Young people have become disconnected from nature, principally because they don’t get to meet it first hand, see, hear or smell it. They don’t get to feel it and therefore they never have the chance to fall in love with it.”
The children’s jackets come with a removable and washable pocket liner as well as a ‘wet’ pocket, with wildlife information sewn into the fabric. There are no noisy Velcro fastenings in the collection, to avoid disturbing wildlife. The entire range also consists of a camo-inspired print design.
There is also a set of fold out field guides that comes with the items, and a printed lining with the footprints of some of the UK’s more common species, as well as a magnifying glass and links to charities’ websites where budding zoologists can learn more about the species they find and identify.
The Men’s and Women’s Range
There are styles for men and women too, with quiet, woven fabrics, fully waterproof drop liner and soft-lined pockets for phones and tablets.
Chris Packham launched his new collection last night at a launch event held in Cotswold’s Covent Garden store. He presented a short talk and slideshow, followed by an audience Q&A. He was also on hand to talk about the new men’s, women’s and children’s ranges. The event also held a charity raffle in which people could win items from the new range as well as signed copies of Chris’s award-winning memoir Fingers in the Sparkle Jar, with all proceedings going to the Mammal Society, British Trust for Ornithology, Buglife and Butterfly Conservation.
