The official North Korean news agency KCNA did not immediately confirm the matter.
It comes days after North Korea said it successfully test-fired a multiple-warhead missile, and South Korea, in turn, detonated the missile mid-flight.
Relations between the two Koreas are currently at an all-time low, with Pyongyang intensifying weapons testing while the South sends junk-filled balloons to the South in retaliation for Korea sending propaganda against the North Korean regime.
