10 years later, the game is still going strong
Ten years after its initial release Do not starve together Still going strong. It’s a testament to developer Klei’s continued maintenance, patches, and updates for the game – and the new fan base it’s found when it launches on Nintendo Switch on April 12, 2022. A New update, released on April 27th – and the charming cinematics that came with it – continues that legacy of giving players even more reasons to check back in. In short: It’s never been a better time to watch the game.
The new update, titled Beyond: Take Root, completes From Beyond’s arc – a story that puts Shadow and Moon in conflict with each other. In keeping with the traditions of previous updates, these new story details also add some silly gameplay wrinkles:
- Rifts that release lunar energy will begin to open up in the world, either by defeating a Celestial Champion or through server settings.
- The first spouting creatures are very interested in gardening.
- New and powerful equipment can be crafted from these extra-level ferries, with the appropriate crafting station.
While this update is available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, Switch users will be waiting a little longer, as it “takes a little longer there,” according to the dev blog.
And if you are new here, I will repeat that the game is totally worth a try: Do not starve together is the multiplayer iteration of the cult-favorite survival sim don’t starve. You play as one of a few Edward Gorey-esque characters, each with their own vibe. My favorite character The main character is Wendy, who comes with a companion – the ghost of her twin sister Abigail. You must find food, build shelter, and fend off enemies on a procedurally generated map full of personality and exotic ways to die.
It’s an incredibly silly and fun time – and the From Beyond arc has only added to the charm of the 10-year-old game.
