A man died after jumping into a man-made lake Wednesday morning at SoFi Stadium – the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, authorities said.
Englewood Mayor James Potts said the 45-year-old was violating Inglewood, California, stadium property around 6 a.m. when he ventured into the 15-foot-deep lake, swam downtown and never appeared again. Press Conference.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, first jumped over the fence to get to the stadium’s parking lot.
Stadium guards spotted the man in surveillance footage and called the police, but the rescue effort quickly turned into a mission to retrieve the body.

Potts said officials did not know why the man was in the stadium or why he entered the water.
The mayor added that he does not believe there is anything SoFi Stadium can do to prevent the tragedy.
“This is someone who made a conscious decision to trespass, to go into the lake, and it ended up being a little tight and difficult, so I don’t think SoFi could have done that to prevent that,” Potts said.
