Ukraine and Russia have carried out the largest prisoner exchange since the start of the war. Moscow received 144 soldiers captured by Ukrainian troops. To Kiev, the same number of Ukrainian prisoners were returned. Among those released were fighters from the Azov Regiment, who had been seriously wounded in the Battle of Mariupol.
Pictures released by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry show that almost all of the 144 prisoners of war released by Russia are seriously injured. They suffered fractures, amputations and gunshot or shrapnel wounds. Most fought at Mariupol.
Russian troops are currently concentrating their offensive in the Donbass and the last urban bastion of Ukrainian resistance in the east of the country. Lysychansk is under heavy bombardment.
Analysts are already predicting that the conflict will drag on as more Western weapons arrive in Ukraine.
Earlier this week, London released pictures of Ukrainian soldiers with British military instructors.
On British soil, they learn to operate the L-119 cannon. They are also taught to deal with the complexities of long-range multiple rocket launchers capable of hitting targets up to 80 kilometers away.
The United Kingdom is currently the largest donor of military aid to Ukraine, after the United States, with more than €1 billion worth of arms delivered or pledged.
