Thermarest EvoLite Plus

The EvoLite three-season sleeping pad from Thermarest gets an upgrade with the addition of “ThermaCapture Technology”- a reflective coating inside that radiates trapped heat providing a thermal boost. It’s a traditional self-inflating mat, with a cut away foam structure inside that aids inflation and provides cushioning. The Urethane foam forms an internal skeleton, with air spaces between each rib, to reduce weight, and is supportive and pleasingly stable for a good nights sleep. Unlike a lot of lightweight mats, it didn’t creak and keep me awake. The overall depth is 6.4 cm, 1.4cm fatter than the standard EvoLite, and luxurious in a mat that only weighs 690g. I tested the regular length (183 x 51 cm), and a longer length is available (196 x 63cm). Thermarest recommend it for three-season use, and I’ve had it on extended test since the spring and have often used it sub-freezing temperatures, even camping at 4,000m. Its pretty good on sloping pitches, as the 30D outer fabric is not particularly slippy. The packed size is advertised at 20 x 14 cm, but I have to admit that it’s a fight to get it back in its stuff sack and it has ended up in an Exped drybag with a 16cm diameter. Overall a superb compromise of comfort and weight, suitable for extended backpacking trips and cooler conditions. LW
