When I first laid eyes on the Nimbus I was impressed that Stubai are offering an ultra light helmet at an accessible price – but would it stand up to the sort of abuse that a general purpose climbing lid should weather? I’ve been using it over the past two months, and in that time it’s been rammed in to a full pack at least thirty times, bumped up a few rocky chimneys, helped deliver ice axe arrest sessions and gone sport climbing in the sun. Not a scratch to be seen. This is seriously good for an expanded polystyrene (EPS) helmet. It does have a good polycarbonate shell to protect it, but is still very light at 240g. It is easy to adjust one handed with a single dial at the back and I have found it very comfortable to wear, in the heat or over a woolly hat. The only possible drawback I can see is that it sizes up quite large. I have a big head with lots of hair and have found it roomy, so it might not fit everyone.
