It is hard not to wax lyrical about these Salomon trail shoes. The grip is superb. The aggressive lugs function well on a wide variety of terrain giving you confidence over mud, rock, tree roots, track and even in snow. The GoreTex upper means that your feet don’t get immediately wet from splashes, keeping your socks dry for longer, and they are also breathable. After a very wet run the shoes dry fairly quickly, and any mud is easily washed off. The shoes are light at only 260g and even when fully soaked they don’t feel heavy on your feet. The quick lacing system works well and the small pocket on the tongue allows you to stow the toggle away and prevent it from flopping around. The soles are well cushioned and the insoles were surprisingly supportive for someone with high arches, I didn’t use my personal insoles during any of the test runs. If you have wide feet they may feel a little snug at first but the more you wear them the more comfortable they become.
► Verdict: Confidence and comfort with every step.
► Best for: Running on everything, anywhere!
