The other pair of lightweight gloves for ropework, this time with a nod towards dry tooling and mixed climbing. The palm, index and little fingers are Pittards leather, the rest is a softshell type fabric called Matrix which is windproof and weather resistant, though not fully waterproof. The wrist closure is Airprene, an update on Velcro that sits easily under a jacket, but it is short and will leave the wrists exposed if holding tools above your head. The glove is fleece backed and all the fingers are fully enclosed, meaning a warmer glove than the Edelrid’s, but the emphasis here is on maximum dexterity rather than warmth, which translates as a slim well fitting glove which can be backed up easily with a mitt at the belay. I haven’t had a chance to play with these in winter as yet, but on a chilly autumn scramble recently they kept the worst of the weather off and allowed me to faff with gear to my heart’s content. Weight per pair 85g.
VERDICT: A grippy and protective climbing glove, which prioritises deterity.
BEST FOR: Mixed climbing.
