It is simple, and light, made from three layer eVent, and has the brawny features needed for a four-season waterproof. There are external pockets with waterproof lining, situated well about the harness line, and a zipped internal pocket. The hood works well over a helmet, with a wired brim, and as a ponytail wearer I like the extra volume. The underarm zips are thoughtfully positioned to run along the forearm, effective for venting. The zips are heavy duty, with a reassuring stiffness that has a drawback. It’s a fiddle to do up, but worse, it’s also a fiddle to properly “dock” the pocket zips under their (really quite tight) protective hoods, especially with gloves on. During testing, my pockets filled with water more than once. This is user error, but when the weather kicks off I don’t like having to remember to fiddle zips into place. Weight 466g.
VERDICT: A great value waterproof, if you don’t mind the stiff zips.
BEST FOR: Year-round mountaineering and hill walking.
